Hi, I’m Myrna — but you can call me Mimi!
I’m 26, born in São Tomé, raised in Portugal, and now living in the UK since I was 16. Portuguese is my first language, but over the years, I’ve learned to express myself in English too — a journey that started with me barely knowing a word and somehow led to earning a bachelor’s degree in Economics, Finance & Banking, and a master’s in Accounting & Finance.
I’ve always been the friend people come to for advice — not because I have it all figured out, but because I understand. My parents were open with me from a young age, teaching me about life through their own experiences. That honesty shaped how I see the world — and how I connect with others.
Like many people, I’ve had moments where I felt alone, like no one could really get what I was going through. It’s one of the reasons I created EmpowerHer — a space for real, everyday people with real, everyday struggles. A reminder that you’re not alone, that your story matters, and that you can always start again.
Outside of all that, I’m a big fan of adult cartoons (yes, the comfort kind ). They remind me to keep a sense of humour through everything.I come from a small but close family — my mum, dad, and my little brother, who’s 10 years younger and basically my first child. EmpowerHer is my way of sharing the lessons, reflections, and reminders that have helped me grow — and I hope they help you too.
